International Service News

I'm looking forward my third year & final year as District International Service Chairman. I hope to visit as many of the clubs in District 7 as possible (if I'm invited!)

This year I would like to flush away poverty in Africa and Asia by supporting "Toilet Twinning".  A third of the world's population has to use streams, fields, roadsides or disease-breeding buckets. Toilet Twinning raises funds to enable people living in poor communities to have clean water, a basic toilet and to learn about hygiene.

Every donation of £60 is sufficient to twin your toilet with a single household latrine. A family who understand the need for a latrine and have been empowered to build their own are much more likely to use it and look after it.

This is what sustainability is all about.

I would still like to support PCF by collecting ring pulls from drinks cans

The Purple Community Fund (PCF) which was set up by Rotarian Jane Walker,MBE in 1996. We can help give children in the Philippines a better future by simply collecting ring pulls from drinks cans  and sending them to PCF in Southampton. They are light and so don't cost much in postage, the results are amazing. They are made in to wonderful handbags, covers for telephones, pencil cases, etc. The profit from the sale of goods goes back to those in need.

I would also like to support Trade-Aid.  We can help by collecting zips, buttons and flat irons to go into a seamstress box which can be sent to an area to give a livelihood to someone after a disaster has occurred.

Also we can collect the bar codes from boxes of Yorkshire Tea.

The bar codes buy Wheelchairs for Africa

I'm focussing on recycling and collecting items but obviously all of these charities will welcome monetary donations too!

Please encourage your family, friends and schools if possible to help us make a difference.
