July 2017 /18

Handover night.

A memorable occasion at the beginning of our IW year is always our Handover night when this year President Wendy handed over to our new President  Sheiila

Sheila  was welcomed by Rotarian President David Lawrence who said that he hoped both clubs would continue to work together.  Both David and Sheila have been Presidents before , so were feeling a little more  confident in their new roles than they did  first time round!!.

July 2017

We held our annual tea party in one of our Members gardens. The weather was very kind to us maybe a little too hot for some - particularly those in the kitchen.

We all enjoyed scones with lashings of jam and cream followed by cakes, which were all baked by our members. (The diets started the next day!!. ) We were very grateful to our friends from other Clubs who supported us by spending money at our' Bring and Buy stall and plant stall ' and raising a good amount for our International fund. Many thanks to Jean Callaghan District Chairman for attending.

Future Events 2017

  • Guest Evening .

Last year events

November 2016

Our annual quiz took place at Doddington village hall , where the brainy- and the not so brainy, competed against one another to find the most intelligent team of them all. Amongst cries of the questions being too hard etc etc, a winning team did emerge. Lots of fun was had by all, and Members of the Club provided a lovely hot supper.A considerable amount of money was raised for worthwhile charities.'

December 2016

We had a very enjoyable Christmas meal with Christmas readings , and carols - a lovely way to start our Christmas . Instead of sending each other Christmas cards we donated money to our local Hospice.

March 2017

Time to give some of that money that we raised away.Half of the money raised over the past year was handed over to Crazy Hats ( A local organization supporting Breast Cancer Care).

Regular Activities of the Club

The healthy group of the club try to persuade the remainder of us to join in a regular walk. The Walking group is now well established and a small but dedicated group meet each month for a pleasant walk and chat. Coffee and cake are also always available at the end of the walk !!

 Reading Group

The reading group meets once a month to discuss the latest book that has been read by the group. The meeting has some lively discussions, led by our past President , who guides us towards our next book.  We also have a cup of tea, and biscuit and of course- ' put the world to rights '

Lunch Club

Each month one of the Members cooks a superb lunch and entertains up  to 10 other members . This is a lovely social occasion and enjoyed by all.
